The Project
This early California hacienda-style ranch home is nestled on a historical cattle ranch overlooking Cachuma Lake. The residence consists of approximately 4500 sq. ft. of living space, a 1250 sq. ft. semi-attached garage and approximately 2200 sq. ft. of enclosed screen and covered porch areas. In order to achieve aesthetic authenticity, many specialized materials were utilized for this project. The exposed timbers are mill cut rough to full dimension. This allows for the circular blade marks and slight imperfections to show through the wood, as would be the case had this home been built in the mid 1800’s. The courtyard entry doors, the house entry doors and the bedroom entry doors are authentic Mexican Mesquite doors which are over 100 years old. We retrofitted the doors to accept modern hardware where necessary for security and weather concerns. The majority of the exterior walls are double framed 12”-18” thick walls which are then veneered with real adobe bricks. The floor tile and roof tile is made in Mexico from fired Lincoln clay. We also inter-mixed Adiqueen cut stone tiles in several areas. The massive living room fireplace is constructed from liken covered fieldstone which is indigenous to the ranch. Our in-house crews completed the foundation, framing, cabinetry and finish work on this project. Because the owner needed to fast track the project, we were able to complete this home from start to finish in 7 months. This home also won awards for “Best custom residential project” by the SBCA (Santa Barbara Contractors Association). It has been featured in Builder/Arch Magazine as well as numerous other publications.
