Running Springs Ranch
The Project
Set amongst mature oaks on a 100-acre historical ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley, the owners wanted this home to “blend” with the existing structures on the ranch and “look as if it had been there for 100 years.”
This was achieved by using our own “in-house” crews to distress and finish the timbers used throughout the house. Utilizing specialized methods developed by MWC enabled us to avoid a “modeled” look. The massive stone fireplace is constructed from Hard Serpentine River Rock, which is indigenous to the ranch and its many creeks. The patios and fence pillars are overlaid with Santa Maria Flagstone, another material that is indigenous to the area and was widely used in other areas as structures on the ranch. The doors, windows and interior wainscoting are custom built from Western Red Cedar. The floors are wide plank ¼ Sawn White Oak. The cabinetry, built by our own in-house craftsmen, is constructed in the “small bone” style from Maple and Western Red Cedar.
The house also features an extensive low-voltage electronic lighting system, automatic fire-sprinkler system, copper cutters, downspouts and flashings and central heat and air. Designed and built to look 100 years old and to last even longer. MWC efforts have been recognized for this project with the SBCA (Santa Barbara Contractors Association) builder of the year award and the SBCA “Best New Custom Residential Project” award.
